Our designer Charlie talks about his work with The Gadget Show….

As the newest member of the Smallfry team I felt privileged and excited when asked to be involved in the latest Gadget Show project.

I didn’t realise at the time that project ‘Gadget Bag’ would sometimes be more like Pandora’s Box!

To kick-of the project we met up with Ortis and the team in our studio. At first I was nervous when having a camera shoved in my face, but Ortis was such a nice chap that I soon eased into the swing of things.

We discussed requirements, sketched out some initial concepts and after a pub lunch off they went, leaving me and Andy to put the pieces together.

We had a lot of work ahead of us but with some help from friends at HPL and Carbon Mods (and a lot of late nights) we were able to achieve a high standard prototype that we were proud of.

With the luggage finished we again met up with the Gadget Show team, this time in London, to put the prototype through its paces.

It was a joy to see the first judge buzzing around a busy Marylebone Station with a smile on his face. We created quite a stir and people were gathering round to see the product in action.

More smiles were waiting as we met the other judges in both the John Lewis and Debenhams head offices. Even though these offices provided a lot less space than Marylebone Station, the judges were keen to try the product and despite some unplanned wheelies and some slight crashes all seemed to thoroughly enjoy our design.

Later on we visited the Gadget Show studio and met the rest of the Gadget Show team. It was a great experience and although we didn’t win our challenge, I had a great time working on it.

ISO:9001 accreditation…

It’s official – we have now received ISO:9001 certification.

ISO:9001 is an internationally recognised standard for the quality management of businesses, large or small and helps companies to be more structured and organised.

The standard shows commitment to quality and achieves customer satisfaction, through the delivery of products and services that consistently meet customer requirements.

We are pleased to announce that after months of hard work alongside our consultant Ladbroke Consulting we have now achieved the standard.
